The Finish Line My project is officially completed! The last week before the project was very hectic and I had to adjust to some changes. I wanted piglets to the project but they could not be separated because of attachment issues. I then wanted a more interactive part to my project and contacted the manager at the Farmers Market if they could help. The farmers market have a classroom where the teach children about agriculture and allow them to do many things such as cutting up corn, milking a plastic cow, interacting with chickens, and more. The lady in charge of that was out of town so I was not be able to allow the people at my project to do most of those things. However, another worker could be in the room and talk to them about the market and the farm and allow the milking of the cow and chicken interaction. I decided to change my agenda and start with a presentation and video, give out food, and move to the class next door where they would be able to talk to the worker and milk the cow and interact with chickens. This week I also made multiple posters for directions, and information about factory farms to hang around. I came back the day before the project to test the technology again, then the day of the project I went to pick up my order, set up, and hang signs and posters.
My biggest obstacle became the people attending my project, even with directions and RSVPs many got lost since it was difficult to find the project and many had left. My phone had also broken so I couldn't contact or help those trying to get to my project who RSVP. Overall the project turned out good, not quiet as I expected but I tried my best and had the best support and helpers. I am relieved that it is done and glad I could make an impact on others to change their minds about what they eat.

This week I got a lot done. I printed out everything I needed to print out such as the flyers and petition. My main focus was on the presentation slides, I finished my google slide that I will be using for the presentation section of my event and created my speech I have to give. I contacted the manager and the Farmers Market again just to make sure everything is set. I do have many people saying they are coming I am expecting roughly 20 people.
I still have to create the board and posters for my event and finish making the recipe books. I also need to figure out how I am going to be able to pay for the Chipotle Catering and other items since it is very expensive. I believe everything is coming along great my only worry is if I'm going to be able to pay for all of this on time. I think once I pay for it all the event will be great. I contacted my consultant by emailing her this week updating her on everything that is happening and what I have been doing. We are both very excited to see how the project will turn out. This week I started to get everything going, I completed the flyers and printed those out, I am finishing up the recipe book and will make covers for them, I created a detailed agenda for the day of the event. It consist of a presentation, a chance for people to interact with chickens and a piglet, another presentation, a break for everyone to eat Chipotle, then giving out recipe books and signing of a petiton. I should be finishing up the recipe books, will be finding a petition, going to the store and purchasing the items I would need, and creating the presentation. All of those should be done by the end of next week.
I contacted my consultant by emailing her discussing the planned agenda and everything I will need. She is a great support to have and will be helping me through the project when needed. We both are excited and glad to see everything moving ahead and coming along. This week I had officially planned everything out, I will be doing it at the Farmers Market from 4-6pm. It is at the back of the Farmers Market on a small field by the Organic Store, and I will be using a classroom they have there. I will first do my presentation PowerPoint in the classroom talking about my topic and project, outside I will have hens, a piglet, activities, Chipotle catering, a petition, and recipe books. I am expecting a little over 20 people to come to this event.
I created flyers for the event and will hang them up around the school and the farmers market. I contacted managers and went back to the Farmers Market to make sure everything I will need for my presentation works and asked to use their hens. I started making the recipe books that I will give out at the event, each with 10 vegetarian recipes. I created a list and the price of everything I will bring and need for the event. It is expensive so far so hopefully I will have enough money to get everything by then. I consulted with my consultant by emailing her this week telling her about the plans so far, what I will need to get, and what I am doing. She seems confident in the project and is excited to see the turn out for it. I am confident in the project event, I think it will turn out great and I will have people perceive where they get they're food from differently, and how they eat. The only set back I might have is being able to get everything since it is pricey and I have to get everything myself. But as of right now everything is going smoothly and on a timely manner. This week I haven't had a lot of time to do much since I did get very sick and came back on Wednesday. I did secure a venue at the Farmers Market on Princess Anne for 4-6pm. I did contact a person that I know who owns a piglet. I wanted to have a piglet at the event just to make it more active and entertaining. I created a list of the supplies I would need so far for what I am doing. I haven't had a set idea for the activities I'm doing yet but I have the general event planned. I will talk about my project first, present a video, do activities, have them create their bowl or burrito since Chipotle is catering, and interactions with the piglet. I am creating vegetarian recipe books and have picked out some of the recipes. I will be giving those out at the event as the people leave and sign the petition to get laws passed for factory farms.
I contacted my consultant this week via email discussing the progress of the project and the plan. I think that we are both excited for the project and believe it will turn out great. The only issue or setback I may have is the expense of everything together and if I can afford it or not. I think that it is all coming along well. This week I was able to secure a venue at the Farmers Market on Princess Anne Road. I am still figuring out the exact time but it will be on April 2nd. It will take place at the back of the Farmers Market on their open field near their garden. I officially decided to do Chipotle to cater at the event. I chose Chipotle because they only get their products from farmers that raise their animals cruelty free. No hormones or drugs are given to these animals and they eat natural food and roam around outside for most of their lives. They give some of they're proceeds to these farmers for their hard work to raise and grow these products humanely. If people bought products from farmers like them, and advocated for them the supply and demand for factory farmed products would decrease. Meaning the workers would not make as much money, forcing them to treat animals humanly and have factory farmers regulated so that consumers would start purchasing from them again.
I emailed my consultant this week updating her about the venue plan, and caterers. She is excited about the plan and believes it will turn out good. I also planned out some ideas for other activities I will have there and I am hoping to rent a tea cup pig to bring with me. Now that this project is moving along I am more confident in how it will go. I am excited for it to come along further and for the final event. So far everything is running smoothly. This week I have been focusing on securing a venue, I discussed with Hunt Club Farm to hold my project there but they were asking for too much. I am now trying to secure a venue with the Farmers Market on Princess Anne since they have a great area in the back where I can hold my project. I also planned the basics of what I am going to do there and what I need to get. At my project I will talk about my topic, have a presentation, I have been looking at different vegetarian places to cater, I am hoping to get a tea cup pig to bring to the project, creating vegetarian recipe books to sell, and activities.
I am looking at Whole Foods Market to cater some food since they believe in organic farming, and away from factory farming, and animal cruelty. I will need many things for my event to present, to make the food, make the recipe book, and activities. I discussed with my consultant, Mrs. Buehler, in person this week. We talked about the change of venues and what I was going to do at my project. Mrs. Buehler is the foods teacher so we discussed some food options to bring and for the recipe book. I am excited for this project I believe if everything goes as planned it will be great. I think people will enjoy coming to my senior project. I am nervous about being able to get everything I need without it being overly priced. The main thing I am working on right now is to secure a date, time, and venue. While I am waiting on that I have been planning what I'm going to do, filling my time log and to-do list, and working on my blog. Welcome to my first blog post! I started off my project by going over my proposal and listing off everything I needed to be done. I created a to-do list for this week and tried to accomplish everything I had. The first thing on my list was to contact my consultant, Mrs. Buehler. She is the First Colonial High School foods teacher. We discussed my proposal and plans for my project and listed some ideas. So far I plan to hold my project at Hunt Club Farm where I will have a video presentation, activities, a variety of vegetarian and vegan foods, a petition to pass certain laws, and have animals there. This project is to show others how animals are being treated in factory farms, how they should be treated and cared for, and different alternatives and solutions to fix it. Some of the ideas we discussed was the different foods we would have there. We agreed to talk further about the project and meet sometimes next week.
The next thing on my to-do list was to contact Hunt Club Farm and to secure the venue there. I had emailed them and will be meeting with them next week to further talk about the event and what they can do to help. I chose Hunt Club because it is a farm and does have a petting zoo which would correlate to my factory farming project. I did start to create this website this week, I hope that you will like it! I am nervous about how the project will turn out but as of right now I'm just trying to plan everything out. I am excited to get this started and work through the challenges for a great project to end with. |
